My 4 Star Review for Given to You (The Killer Next Door #3) by Carlie Sexton

To give is a virtue. But to give your very self, the ultimate bequest. Offered in love, it can be wondrous. Offered in desperation, it can be deadly.

In Book Two of this three-part epic, young and tempting Kate Simmons at last seemed to have reached a safe haven of happiness when she moved in with Neil, ambitious and persevering, both in his legal practice and his love life. Taking great care to protect his trophy and the surprise he had in mind for Kate, Neil hired security to accompany his soon-to-be fiancée on a scavenger hunt of a lifetime. As Book Three continues their saga, it is life itself that is in the balance when Kate becomes the hunted as the jilted Roger snatches his prey.

The obsessed minds of Neil and Roger now take aim squarely at each other — with a bare and exposed Kate directly in the crossfire. Knowing her very life will be the winner’s spoil, Kate stares agony in its ghastly face as it approaches for the death dance.

There is no time, no place, no safety in a war of fixation. A war in which the winner will be either the last one standing, or the last one to die.

My 4 Star Review

“Do you understand that you belong to me now? We are going to be together forever and no one and nothing is going to take you away from me.”

In Taken by You we were left with Roger finding Kate. Neil has done everything in his power to protect the love of his life but when it comes to Roger, no-one is safe. Picking up right where we were left hanging, Kate went to being happy to scared out of her mind in 5 seconds flat.

“You smell so delicious. I can’t wait to have you all to myself later.”

Kate now at the mercy of a certified killer, she does her best to play along to keep her and Roger’s poor son safe. Fearing for her life and for those she cares about, she has no choice but to comply with Roger’s wants and needs.  When she learns where he is taking her, her worst nightmare is coming true and she silently says goodbye to her loved ones, knowing very well after Roger has gotten what he wants from her, she may end up like Rose and Mark..

Neil is frantic when he can’t get a hold of her. He knows in his heart that Roger had gotten to her. Neil being the fantastic lawyer he is has a lead and as obsessed with Kate as he is (but in the non-creepy way) Roger may have finally met his match.  Neil does everything in his power to get Kate back and when he does, Roger is furious.

“He’s never going to get near you again. The police are going to catch him....”

Realizing how short life can be, Neil and Kate follow their hearts in a whirlwind of fear, love and total bliss. Deciding to get away from it all, they go away. Little did they know that Roger’s fixation with Kate would end up being a fight for their lives.

Roger tops the charts as a bonified, creeptacular serial killer.

Neil was relentless in his pursuit for Kate and his secret nearly cost him. He knows what he wants and does everything in his power to get it. He is a loving, passionate, smart and sexy man! *Ice water needed*
Kate has struggled for so long. Finally becoming independent again only to be thrown into life and death situation in where she has no choice but to be dependent. She is determined to keep those she loves alive, even if it kills her in the process.

Such wonderful supporting characters were created as well. There is Mac and Nat who have both suffered great losses in their lives, which brought them together. Then you have Charlie and Mitch, a young couple who found love and are getting married. They have been great friends to Kate through it all.

Carlie did a phenomenal job in wrapping up this series.  Such a talented writer and definitely an author to keep your eye on!

If you are looking for a steamy romance mixed with fear, suspense and a few WTF moments then look no further, this is definitely a series for you!

An engaging can’tputyourbookdown read. A must!
