My 4 Star Review for Strings of the Heart (Runaway Train #3) by Katie Ashley

My 4 Star Review:

Have you ever had a crush on your sibling’s friend? You know that one of kind crush that turns into that love that will last forever or at least you hope it will?
Allison Slater has loved Rhys McGowan since she was thirteen. The problem is he only sees her as his band mate Jakes, little sister. Gathering all the courage she could muster, she asked him for a real kiss for her sixteenth birthday. See, wishes really do come true but unfortunately that kissed changed everything.  She is no longer that little girl and she is determined to make Ryhs see her as more.
Rhys McGowan doesn’t do love. His parents are a prime example of why. Plain and simple, he doesn’t do relationships. When he visits Jake’s little sister Allison in Savannah, the lines between their friendship quickly fade. He starts to realize that there was always something special with her.

“What have you done to me?” I asked, as I stared into her eyes.
Allison’s brow lined in confusion. “I haven’t done anything.” I shook my head. “You’ve done something to change me-to make me want you.”

When a night of tequila starts out as fun and ends up being one of the most incredible nights of their lives; Rhys wakes up to realize he has crossed a line he shouldn’t have. Trying to play it off as a druken mistake. He leaves her completely shattered.

“The past is the past, and we can’t keep letting it cripple us in the present.”
Now that she is on break from college, touring with the band as Jake and Abby’s part time nanny and also doing a major internship for her schooling; Rhys finds himself in his own personal hell.

“I’ll just try not to think each and every time I see you that you’re the man who didn’t just break my heart- you shattered it.”

Trying to keep his distance from her and also trying to remain friends. Their emotions and feelings for each other continue to spiral out of control. Rhys continues to send her mixed messages and Allison has had enough, she realizes he will never give her what she needs, what they need. What’s a girl who is in love to do? She decides to move on.
When Rhys comes to his senses and sees his mistakes and his foolishness, he vows to do everything he can to get her back and to mend her heart. Soon he realizes that things are easier said than done. Allison wants no part of him. She is over his “sorry’ s”.

“Why won’t you listen to me? I can’t leave you right now because I need you too much. And I can’t let you leave me.”

I have to say that this was my favorite story. Rhys is soooo much more than just a bass player. Not only is his gorgeous but is also completely loyal to his friends and those he cares for. He is extremely smart and so caring and loving. He comes from a loveless family and he has no faith in himself when it comes to being able to love. The thing is, he is a very loving man and although he can’t see that, it makes him that much more desirable. He does have his douchebag moments but he definitely redeems himself.

Allison is a fantastic character. Not only is she beautiful, smart and talented but she is feisty, tough and compassionate. Although she is younger, she has an old soul. She knows what she wants and in a roundabout way she goes after it. She is so loveable, one minute she is innocent and naive and the next minute she can make the dirtiest of minds blush.

The CHEMISTRY that Allison and Rhys share is OFF.THE.CHARTS... *holywowgeezmakesyouwanttobecomeagroupie* HOT HOT HOT!

Katie Ashely did a FANTASTIC job in this installment of The Runaway Train series. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next!
