Synopsis:
There’s a difference between a bad boy and a boy who’s bad . . . meet Shane Baxter.
Sexy, dark, and dangerous, Bax isn’t just from the wrong side of the tracks, he is the wrong side of the tracks. A criminal, a thug, and a brawler, he’s the master of bad choices, until one such choice landed him in prison for five years. Now Bax is out and looking for answers, and he doesn’t care what he has to do or who he has to hurt to get them. But there’s a new player in the game, and she’s much too innocent, much too soft…and standing directly in his way.
Dovie Pryce knows all about living a hard life and the tough choices that come with it. She’s always tried to be good, tried to help others, and tried not to let the darkness pull her down. But the streets are fighting back, things have gone from bad to worse, and the only person who can help her is the scariest, sexiest, most complicated ex-con The Point has ever produced.
Bax terrifies her, awakening feelings she never thought she’d have for a guy like him. But it doesn’t take Dovie long to realize . . . some boys are just better when they’re bad.
My 4 star review
Growing up in The Point isn’t easy. It is every person for
themselves.
I had been around long enough in
the worsts parts of town to know the difference between a bad boy and a boy who
was just bad. Bad was stamped all across Shane Baxter and it had nothing to do
with the star tattooed on his face or the ominous and deliberate way he moved,
like a coiled snake ready to strike and eager to fill you with poison before
you could blink.
Dovie Pryce is no stranger to struggling. Her life has been
hard but she has also worked hard to live the life she wants. She is good, kind
and is always helping others. When someone she cares for disappears, she turns
to the only person she was told to trust... Shane Baxter. Not only is her life
in danger , her heart is on the line as well.
What I did know, could feel in
every cell of my body, was that I had just made an unbreakable deal with the
devil and paying up might mark my soul forever.
Shane “Bax” Baxter; A sexy, scary and very complicated man.
He is very well known in the point and after serving some time, he is out for
answers and for blood. Growing up on the wrong side of the tracks, Bax gets
what he wants. He is out for himself and he will protect those he cares for,
which is only a few people in his life. When his best friend goes missing he
hits the streets looking for answers. The last thing he expected was Dovie
Pryce. She is completely opposite of the women he knows and she has him
mesmerized.
“You are going to regret this when I prove to you everything you think
about me is wrong.” She lifted my hand and traces the star next to my eye with
the dull edge of her fingernail.
“No, I’m not. You are not a mistake.”
Maybe I would just have to show her.
As
terrifying and scary Bax can be, Dovie has proved her point to Bax, she isn’t
going anywhere. The other thing is she also can’t help but fall for him. Bax is
getting used to being around her, being with her. He also realizes how pure she
really is and he knows she deserves better. To protect her, he has no choice but
to let her go.
When I thought about her, all I could feel was light. The short time
she had been a part of my life had given me room to breathe. She did more to
set me free than walking out of those prison gates ever had.
So I love
that Dovie isn’t your typical female heroine. She is beautiful but in a homely
kind of way. She blends in so that she
doesn’t stick out. What makes her irresistible is her innocence, her smarts,
her attitude. She is tough, she is smart and she is able to stand up for herself.
“You don’t need anyone to show you how to be good, you’re so much
better when you’re bad.”
Bax grew up
doing things that we know are wrong. It was what he had to do to survive. He is good at it, top of his game. He is sexy and smart and he truly is a good
guy. While searching for his missing
friend and trying to protect Dovie, the truth slowly starts to come out. Bax
realizes that he may not get out of this one alive but he will do whatever he
can to be sure Dovie does.
Jay
Crownover did a great job with Bax being too bad to be good but also too good
to be bad. He is the best of both and I loved every minute of it. There was
some HOT HOT scenes. The characters were fantastic. I loved the suspense and
the truths that came out. CRAZY. This book held my attention the entire time.
I look
forward to meeting some more of the bad boys from The Point *hint hint Titus*
